Micky van de Ven found the net twice as Tottenham extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to put their impressive record at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent stops to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to check the score on the screen and the official decided that the winger and the attacker were in an illegal position and had interfered with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

The win moves the manager's team up to third in the Premier League, a handful of points off local foes and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

Spurs breakdown: The defender excels in role at both ends of the field

Following a uninspiring weekday performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani up front instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with the midfielder heading the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - added his next goal in added time as he outjumped the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was equally impressive in defence, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees missing finishing touch

Everton's recent stadium had been a fortress, but it seems the novelty may have faded somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and Thierno Barry - the Toffees' two established strikers - had netted just a single goal combined before the weekend's match.

And they were unable to add to that poor record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional attempt that would have tested the keeper.

The substitute, too, failed to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who relentlessly delivered threatening crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.
